July 19: Leaving Omaha

Tekamah Motel, my home for the evening

Omaha turned out to be a disappointment. The hotel was lacking. No pool. All the tourist places closed. Unbelievably hot. It hit 97 on Saturday. And I traveled something like 15 miles around the hotel in a vain search for postcards. None to be had.  So it was refreshing to get out of town today. A shorter ride planned, ending at Tekamah. Tekamah is a small community of about 1800 residents, and there turned out to be a small mom and pop motel too.  The Tekamah motel.

I had great luck with the route today. A combination of Nebraska 133 and US75. Both roads had smooth wide paved shoulders. Even though the temp got close to 90 today, it never felt really warm. A nice breeze on my face throughout the day.

Elevations continue to rise, as expected, since I am traveling up river🙂. The first day on the trip with a low reading above 1000 feet. And the high elevation very nearly matches the overall high for the entire trip, which was at Blue Mound on Day 1.

No unique scenic photos today.  I had to concentrate on man made objects. But all in all, a pleasant day today. Tomorrow’s ride promises to be longer with a goal of the Sioux City area. Hopefully I can squeeze the miles in between possible raindrops. Also the prospect of nice scenery with a return to The River.

Miles: 40
Elevations: Max 1340 Low 1025, near Tekamah.
Max speed: 29.1 mph
North component: 35.9miles

Those aren’t rocks on the hill in back. They are new cars.
